THE LIGHT OF DUBLIN IS IN ITS DOORS

When I visited the capital of Ireland in the summer of 2008, the first thing that surprised me was the color of the doors of the houses (yellow, pink, red, blue…). In South America or in the South-east of Europe perhaps we are not surprised, because colors are very present, but in a city like Dublin , where the sun doesn’t shine a lot during the year…

There, every door has a different color. We don’t see the same colors next to each other. When you arrive for the first time you are shocked, but after you soon become accustomed to it.

And why is there this custom of painting the doors? The origin is in Georgian art, but with a touch of eccentricity: the color. They say that the color helps the owner or the tenant find their house at night, after returning from a big party, with lots of alcohol!

Someone told me that they paint the doors because they see the sun only a few days in the year, so the light is present thanks to the doors!
